This is my poster project. It is for a hardcore band called "Guttersnipe." I used a picture of concrete behind my house for the texture and layered it on top of textures I found online to give it a rugged and dirty look to it. The two men in the poster are still-frames from movies. The word "Burn" is on the white strip across Robert DeNiro's eye because that is the name of one of this band's albums.
Nice poster dude, I love the overall design of it. I think there is a bit too much going on and "burn" should probably be aligned to fit the white box and maybe some more text to fill it all in. Great job
ReplyDeleteThat's cool! It kind of reminds me of a mystery novel. I've heard of the band though and it's a really good representation of the band. I would try to smooth out the overall look though, just so that way it doesn't look too deteriorated. really good job though!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that I would do is to maybe chose a different type for the band name, maybe something more rugged.
DeleteGood looking poster. I like the use of a newspaper as the background for the text "guttersnipe". "Burn" should a aligned with the white box and a little bit bigger.
ReplyDeletenice poster. i like the film strip that you used for your border. and the gray color scheme is interesting as well. although, i can't really see the characters all that well because of it.
ReplyDeletenice job!
This is pretty incredible. I feel like i can hear the band through this design. I would think about changing the text to make it more hardcore.
ReplyDeleteLooks creepy. I like it. And it kind of looks like a videogame cover in a way. I wish the text was little more hardcore.
ReplyDeleteVery much intresting job. No depth or little bit depth but it works for this poster. The little word "burn" is the best for me. It is cool. I wish every elements have its own meaning like some kind of story telling.
ReplyDeleteI like the film strip on the side and how it fits so well into the grey-scale. All of the slants in the piece fit together rather than clash. I think that "burn" should fit into the white box made for it a bit better. The darkness at the bottom sort of blends with the character so it makes the character's arm look like it's in a really bad angle, unless that is more of a how the picture image came, then I would work with the values a bit.
ReplyDeleteThis looks horrifying, but also really cool. It looks like it would be good for a movie poster too. I like the used of color and images. I think maybe "burn" should be titled more onto the blade to bring it out more. Also maybe get rid of some of the black at the bottom if you can I don't if that's how the image turned out for you.
ReplyDeleteStrong work. There is a nice use of a full value range to create depth and contrast. I like how you have divided the composition up into different gridded sections. The two strips on the left and right, the text block that runs diagonally across the page, and then the upper and lower pictorial regions. The bands across the left and right function almost like curtains opening up into the image, framing it. I enjoy that the left is blurry and out of focus, while the right is sharp and graphic. The many different textures in this piece are really nice to look at and get lost in. They help the flow throughout the piece as I look through each region. Especially nice is the rough texture around Robert D, and around the “Guttersnipe” text as well. Some things to improve-I think that the two images of people at the top and bottom could be moved around slightly. They seem kind of lined or stacked up along a diagonal right now, and they are both about the same size. This doesn’t maximize spatial variance. There are some options for improving this. I think enlarging RD would use and activate the space in the lower half of the composition more. You will still be able to see the texture around him. I would enlarge so that his head hits half way between the bottom of “Guttersnipe” and where his head is now. Then, I would move the upper figure over to the right slightly. Right now it is sort of in the center, but not perfectly. If it is over to the right a little bit, it will counterbalance the weight of RD being mainly on the left, like a ying/yang effect. I would also move it up slightly so it is centered between the top of the poster and the top of the Guttersnipe text. I like that you made such a visually interesting poster while choosing to limit yourself to a grayscale palette.
ReplyDeleteDamn, this is spooky. Everything is skewed and distorted, like some sort of nightmare. I love everything about it. If I had to nitpick, I would say that the word "Guttersnipe" isn't right in the middle of the poster.
ReplyDeleteThe test over DeNiro's eyes is really great. I can't quite put my finger on it but something about the way that the proportions of the top portion with the figure to the bottom with DeNiro is off putting. But I'm not sure that's a bad thing either. Nice texture through out.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like something a hardcore band would do. I like it! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteVery nice poster, it looks like a cover of a horror novel. But this is a band and I've never heard of them. It's still very cool. Only thing to criticize is that some of the characters aren't very visible to me.
